    The control of water pH and alkalinity levels is very important in low- and medium-pressure boilers to reduce corrosion. Depending on the natural feed water alkalinity, it is often necessary to add an alkalinity builder in order to establish the correct boiler water chemistry by raising the feed water pH which helps to protect the system from acid corrosion.     Acid Attack

    Acid attack in a boiler can be caused by low make-up feed water pH which attack the metal surfaces within the boiler system either causing a generalised thinning or localised corrosion of high-stress areas. Be aware that the feed water can also become acidic through contamination in the system (process contamination of condensate or cooling water contamination from condensers). To remedy this treatment regime should include the maintenance of appropriate boiler water alkalinity making sure not to reach excessive levels as this may cause carryover

    UNICHEM 3230 is a concentrated sodium hydroxide based alkalinity builder and is used for controlling or increasing the pH or alkalinity of water in boilers, cooling systems and effluent streams. It can also be used to boost the pH of Reverse Osmosis make-up water when used a low doses.

    Specific applications for UNICHEM 3230 include imparting hydroxide alkalinity to boiler feed water and neutralising acidity in cooling systems and effluents.
